Transit through Singapore

Singapore Changi

Singapore Changi Airport is by far my favorite airport and I have probably spent more time here than any other airport.  I stop by Changi at least four times a year and my usual transit time here is over 19 hours and I never get bored.  Airport hotels are very good here and there are plenty of things to keep one occupied.  I usually spend a good deal of time hopping around different airline lounges thanks to my platinum frequent flyer status.  Shopping is fun and there are plenty of options.  There are a wide variety of choices for dining and I have tried a few places and they were good.  However, the airlines lounge food is quite satisfying and keeps me going for the most part.

I am quite relaxed at the airport and usually don’t venture out.  However, this time I decided to try the free Singapore tour.  Tours are offered throughout the day and I signed up for the early afternoon one.  Luckily, the immigration lines were completely open and the walk to the tour bus was quick.  But luck was not on my side.  Singapore had the worst haze in its history and I decided to go on the tour at its peak.  My eyes starting stinging immediately as I stepped out of the airport.  Nevertheless, I was excited and nothing was going to stop me from enjoying the city.

Everywhere you look, there is haze.

The entire city is covered in haze.

Merlion

No trip to Singapore would be complete without stopping by Merlion Park and taking pictures of the Merlion.
